POGO Launches (Re-Opens) Defense Resource Website

July 12, 2010

The Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is proud today to re-open an incredible resource on national security issues: Defense and the National Interest (DNI).

Created in 1999 with initial funding from POGO, DNI served as a forum to discuss issues regarding the military, particularly military spending and waste. The site began as a collection of commentaries by Franklin C. (Chuck) Spinney, who served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from the mid-1970s to 2003, and Colonel John Boyd, a former fighter pilot and icon of the military reform movement.

DNI grew into a thriving community, eliciting commentaries, insights, and healthy debate from Pentagon insiders and active, reserve, former, and retired military. Although the site's founders recently decided it was time to put down their keyboards, POGO has since gone in to preserve this valuable resource.

Now, we invite you to stop by DNI and have a look around. The site is still receiving comments from visitors.

Chuck Spinney received POGO’s Good Government Award in 2003 and Colonel Boyd was posthumously inducted into POGO’s Good Government Hall of Fame.

Founded in 1981, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is a nonpartisan independent watchdog that champions good government reforms. POGO's investigations into corruption, misconduct, and conflicts of interest achieve a more effective, accountable, open, and ethical federal government.
