POGO Salutes Landmark F-22 Vote in Senate

July 21, 2009

The Senate's historic bipartisan vote to eliminate funding for the F-22 is a game changer.  This landmark vote marks the end of business as usual, and the beginning of real reform in Washington.  We trust the House will support Secretary Gates operational plans to meet future military challenges with sound planning and prudent budget choices.  We hope throughout the conference and appropriations process that the House will also choose to support the priorities of two secretaries of Defense, two Presidents, three chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the current secretary and chief of staff of the Air Force to stop buying F-22s.

Founded in 1981, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is a nonpartisan independent watchdog that champions good government reforms. POGO's investigations into corruption, misconduct, and conflicts of interest achieve a more effective, accountable, open, and ethical federal government.
